1905 WORLD SERIES

Having boycotted the 1904 World Series, Manager John McGraw and his New York Giants took on Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics in the second World Series event.

Both teams had future Hall of Fame players on their rosters. Christy Mathewson, Roger Bresnahan, John McGraw and Joe McGinnity for the Giants and Eddie Plank, Connie Mack, Chief Bender and Rube Waddell of the Athletics. The 1905 Athletics team is pictured below on a postcard in my collection.

The Giants won the series four games to one with Christy Mathewson winning three games for the New Yorkers. In 1906 the Ullman Company honored the winning Giants by issuing a series of twelve postcards depicting the “World Champions”. Three of those postcards from my collection are pictured below.
