Sporting Life Postcards W601

In 1906 The Sporting Life Magazine issued a series of postcards, one for each of the 16 baseball teams, eight in the American League and eight in the National League. The cards displayed the ball players in cameo and are one of the most desirable postcard collectibles in the hobby today.

The cards show many players who do not appear on any other baseball card issue. There are numerous Hall of Fame players including Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Ed Walsh, Honus Wagner, George Davis, Adrian Joss, Nap Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, Willie Keeler, Mordecai Brown, Johnny Evers, Joe Tinker, Frank Chance and many others.

Pictured here are 15 of the 16 cards missing only the Detroit American League card.

  1. very nice write-up. As an FYI, the 1906 St. Louis AL PC includes Branch Rickey (as a Catcher), who is also in the HOF.
